On February 21st, when The We Achieve Foundation completed its first community event. As the snow melted on that cold sunny day, our hearts were warmed, and our resolve strengthened to do more. Allow me to thank all in our donor, volunteer, and support community as I share just a few highlights:
Our donors: We had the initial challenge of figuring out how to fund the event with few cash assets. Many of you purchased essential items from our Amazon Custom Registry and donated funds via PayPal and CashApp totaling $495.27. We offer heartfelt appreciation for the generosity of Andrea, Andrea, Ben, Carmela, Duane, Ivica, Jessica, Juante, Kathleen, Luis, Paulette, Sherie, and Valerie. Your open hands and hearts fed people that day!
Our Volunteers: We never anticipated how much goes into a simple idea of “putting a few lunches together” for our homeless hit hard by cold weather and COVID. Three WAF members supported the 4-week organizational groundwork executed by six local volunteers who distributed care packages as well as recorded events. Our youngest volunteer was just 11 years old, modeling that you are never too young to start helping. Thumbs up to Aaron, Aniyah, Fabian, Fadi, Lydia, Luis, and Mike. It was a pleasure to work and serve with you!
Our Community: We visited the following two locations in the Bronx that shelters the locally displaced in these inclement conditions:
· Franklin Williams Women’s Shelter | 1122 Franklin Ave Bx NY 10475 (929) 281-2330 | Executive Director: Christopher Rose
· The Living Room Bronxworks Shelter | 800 Baretto St Bx NY 10474 (718) 893-3606 | Director: Noel Concepcion
Kudos to the leadership and staff that facilitated distribution at their sites. We are humbled by your work and look forward to partnering with you in the future!
Our Socks and Sandwiches Event: At that time, we were privileged to support folks that were cold and hungry with sustenance, a few winter protective items, and a few words of encouragement. The three cornerstones of We Achieve Foundation are Humanity, Dignity, and Respect where we aim to serve each community member with the compassion that they deserve as we assist them to become productive members “visible” to society.
